This is the part that's giving me that sensawunder sensation:

Microsoft is building a Sony rootkit-remover into its anti-spyware product

Sony's marketing tactic for the last..... oooh.... 20 years had been to assume that they can do more or less what they like, because they are recognised worldwide as *the* quality electronics brand. It just so happens that this time they've been caught out by someone smarter than them.

For further evidence of this, check out the 15 different builds of PlayStation they introduced, changing the Firmware every time. An _utter_bastard_ for software developers, but they had to make do because they simply had no choice.

Incidentaly, I like Sony and will probably buy a PS3, even though I will never play it.

So how does one go about getting rid of this rootkit thing? I think it tried to install itself on my PC but my pile of junk crashed before it could finish so I don't think it actually managed to complete the installation.

Unles you've bought a Sony "not actually a cd" from the States, you won't have it - the software was only used on some discs in the States, and they aren't allowed to call them cds 'cos they aren't compliant with the cd standard.
