Can you bet negative numbers?

Of course he's not going to.... 4% over 50 years will be classed as statistically insignificant for the clergy of today (or some other crap like that)

I found this quote of his on the BBC News website:

In the Church, priests also are sinners. But I am personally convinced that the constant presence in the press of the sins of Catholic priests, especially in the United States, is a planned campaign, as the percentage of these offences among priests is not higher than in other categories, and perhaps it is even lower.

(Quoted in Zenit.org, December 2002)

So it's all the media's fault. Marvellous.

And I'm reasonably sure that 4% of the general population are not child molesters...

So am I...and yet

There is an estimate that one in thirty children is a victim of sexual abuse. I know that does not equate to 1:30 perpetrators, but it shows the extent.

Well, if it's anything like rapists there are a lot of serial offenders who have tens or even hundreds of victims each.

"In the United States, there is constant news on this topic, but less than 1 percent of priests are guilty of acts of this type."
