I've also seen Motorhead, Fairport, Vega, Tom Rob, the Eggplants, SLF, Cave and NMA. One might almost suspect, if one did not know any better, that we went to some of the very same concerts.

I particularly envy you having seen the Men They Couldn't Hang. I never have.

I always find it weird when I hear The Men They Couldn't Hang namechecked in The Tragically Hip song "Bobcaygeon":

That night in Toronto with its checkerboard floors
Riding on horseback and keeping order restored
Til the men they couldn't hang
Stepped to the mic and sang
And their voices rang with that Aryan twang

Not one I'm familiar with.

It seems a bit like it's a song that really only means something if you were there at the time.

I just find odd that a quintessentially Canadian band chose to reference an Irish folk band in their lyrics. I can only presume that the Hip's lyricist saw The Men in Toronto at some point.

It sounds like a real event - it would be rather bizarre otherwise.

I dunno....somethimes I think Gord Downie just reaches for the nearest thing that rhymes. Either that or he's trying to say Eire-ian...

Strokes beard and looks enigmatic.

In the old Cas Rock, at the pubic triangle. It was a great gig - I recommend them highly if you get the chance.

Very much looking forward to the Wasted festival though - that'll up the count a bit!

One of my favourite gig experiences was The Oysterband and the Men They Couldn't Hang at the CornX in Cambridge. Can't remember who was supporting who now. They're both really fun bands.

I wish I'd been able to see New Model Army; Queensryche; Pallas and Stiff Little Fingers, all at their peaks.

Hmmmmm..... methinks I'm stuck:
I can think of, maybe, three bands I've seen... and none of them are on your list...

What a repressed life I've lead <grin />

oh dear

And I've seen ... absolutely none of those. Oh well. Will have to think up a totally new 30!

Fair enough, though it does somewhat nullify the memeness of it all!
