Interesting thing I've been doing with Cthulhu, actually - borrowed from Unknown Armies, I've been keeping hit point scores secret from players, and just giving them vivid descriptions of their wounds.

Seems to work very well.

Yes, I can imagine that would make it worse... Not knowing if the next hit was going to be your last...


Of course my previous character did actually get eaten by zombies. It is unclear whether her boyfriend will be relieved or not when he finds out... :o)

I've done that sometimes, it certainly helps when you're cheating to keep them alive!

I once ran a very sucessful game for a group of non gamers. I gave each of them a one page description of their characters and had an assistant who did the numbers for me.
