Went to the "Full Metal Racket" gig last night, and the "Black Mac Sabbath" gig the night before. Back to my roots as a headbanging metalhead, before it was ruined by the thrash crowd in the mid eighties.

Full Metal Racket are very good - covering an assortment of classic metal (Thin Lizzy, ACDC, Deep Purple, Scorpions, etc.) most convincingly. I enjoyed it, and I'd go again.

Black Mac Sabbath suffered from being over-ambitious, and it didn't quite work. They need to tighten up considerably, too. I think that being a tribute band means that it's quite important to be an accurate copy of the original, and it shows when you aren't. It's easier to be a general covers band 'cos so long as you play well you don't have to copy the original so closely.

Nice to hear music which isn't horribly distorted by the common "turn the base up" tendancy, too. Actually being able to hear the tune! And we were probably of the average age for the crowd, rather than amongst the oldest, which makes a change. Hopefully next time we won't be quite so knackered and be up to dancing. After working frantically all week then xmas shopping I was finding it an effort to tap my feet!

Black McSabbath

Just saw your comment regarding Black McSabbath and whole heartedly agree with it all. They are not making the grade, being neither an accurate tribute nor especially talented improvisors. They are just a pub band and for Sabbath that doesn't work at all, as you've seen. However I thought it might be worth drawing your attention to the name. They are Black MCSabbath and NOT Mac Sabbath. Mac Sabbath are an entirely different Sabbath Tribute show. I saw Mac at the Liquid Rooms and they are the dogs bollocks, sound, look, stage show the works. Apparently two ex-macsabbaths, bass & vocals, are in Black McSabbath but they must be wondering how they ended up going from a happening band to a non-event! I've taken them off my gig calander that's for sure. The Mac Sabbath site says they are off to Germany and doing some other gigs here in the UK, including some "surprise shows". I'm going to keep a look out for that and no mistake.
