Wild Bill Shatner's "Shatner Claus" album is in the mix for my Christmas playlist. Which has just made me realise that what I really want is to hear William Shatner reciting the poetry of William McGonagall. You know it makes sense!

The universe is facilitating my laziness

While contemplating what I would have for breakfast given what we have in the house, it occurred to me that a delivery service for cooked breakfasts would be handy. A quick websearch reveals that I can indeed order a Snax cooked breakfast for delivery. I am now suffering temptation....

The Vietnam War

I've been watching this series on IPlayer. It's excellent, and I strongly recommend it to anyone with an interest in politics, as it's exploring how the leaders lied to and manipulated the public.
The bit where a veteran expresses his outrage that the President and his advisers knew that they were going to lose three years before he was sent to Vietnam is quite powerful. The briefing document from the mid 60s which states that the aims were 70% avoid humiliation, 20% resist communist expansion and only 10% improve the lot of the Vietnamese people is also particularly telling.
Watching the situation snowball and more and more people get killed because the politicians were protecting themselves rather than making decisions on the basis of what they knew the situation was is really depressing.

I just read this article: Mohamed El Bachiri: ‘Terrorists killed my wife: this is my jihad for love

A great rejoinder to the idiots who conflate all muslims with terrorists, it's about a guy who is now a single parent after his wife died in a suicide bombing. The courage and dignity he shows is immense, I can't imagine how hard it must be for him. This is the sort of thing that should be shouted from the rooftops.

So I'm watching the Tour coverage on ITV4, and therefore having to endure ad breaks for a change. On comes a McDonalds ad which is soundtracked with the Buzzcocks' "What Do I Get?" - not surprisingly they don't play the "Nothing at all" line!
