This bit of the HSE site is important reading for anyone who is in any way involved with school trips. It's an analysis of what went wrong when a kid drowned on a school trip in 2002 (after which the responsible teacher was jailed for manslaughter). One useful thing is the 10 questions parents should be asking about proposed trips.

Six aid workers, including an American, were arrested in New Delhi on Monday after several children were hurt when candles they were carrying in a march against child labor ignited their hydrogen-filled balloons. How dumb is it to give a kid a lit candle & a hydrogen filled balloon?

Up to 1,000 teenage boys have been separated from their parents and thrown out of their communities by a polygamous sect to make more young women available for older men. Maybe they should just have got them to join the army - I'm shure Shrub would have got them killed soon enough...

balloons ...

It must have taken the organisers a load of effort to acquire the hydrogen rather than the usual helium.

A; Hi ... we'd like a small cylinder of helium
B: What's it for?
A: We'd like to fill balloons with it
B: !!!!

Re FLD... Damn... That is just plain sick... Someone needs to go in there and get the kids out en masse to protect them.. I know that the American Constuition allow the right for worship, but that's just taking it too far!!

Though I do realise that if that were to happen then the leaders of the group might be pushed to far and might end up with as another Waco on their hands..

The fear of bad publicity is about all that's stopping that happening.
