Tommy Vance has died.
When I was a teenager the Friday Rock Show was my only chance to hear the music I liked. Living in a small town and being into metal in the early eighties his show was about the only way I could hear new music. In many ways he was a cliche, but the show was a big part of my life back then. I read Sounds and Kerrang, but he played the music I wanted to hear. My tastes may have broadened, and the metal scene deteriorated into a thrashy mess, but I still love that rocking sound.
As Saxon said in "Denim & Leather" back in 81:
"Did you read the music paper from the back and to the front
Did you find out where to see your favorite band
Did you listen to the radio every Friday night
Did hang around your local record store"
Yep, that's what I was doing back then. How did it get to be 20 years ago?
It's a bugger this getting older.

*sigh*
Rainbow; Deep Purple; Ronny James Deo; Iain Gillan; Judas Priest (a bit too heavy for my tastes)....
Is it really that long ago?
(Pass me my zimmer frame!)

This lot are worth a listen if you get the chance. They might be doing a gig at the Spider's Web next month. A covers band for that era of metal. And we enjoyed not being the oldest people there for a change when we saw them.

Ta very much
Spiders Web is the 22nd April and the next one TBC in Edinburgh should be 30th July (unless something else appears).
Cheers

Re: Ta very much
We're not likely to make anything outside Edinburgh due to babysitter requirements (unless you play a child friendly venue?) but 30th July will go on the calendar. Where will you be playing?
