Got the results letter from the promotion board I sat yesterday, as an attachment to an email since I was out of the office. Three of us interviewed for one vacancy, I already had recieved a text from one saying there was a letter in my pigeonhole & that she'd not got the job.
The attachment was a word file titled "Successful Letter - B2 Alastair" and the first two paragraphs were:
"Thank you for attending the interview on Tuesday.
I am pleased to inform you that you have successfully passed the B2 board. "
Only in the third paragraph does it say I am actually first reserve, not being offered the post. Not the best wording ever.
On the bright side, if I'd got it there would have been lots of weeks away, and this way if there's another vacancy in the next 6 months (which is almost certain) I'll get the job automatically. Since my current line manager is departing on a nine month secondment the team leader is trying to get management to agree to promote me to replace him. And since I'm officially suitable for promotion they can't argue against a temporary promotion in the meantime while they decide what to do. I get the same money anyway.
So it could all work out for the best in the end.
